Writing and Work/Life Balance
A big part of work/life balance to me is being able to pursue your passion. I love to write and have been writing since I was a young child. I have written poems, songs, articles, a novella and published a children's book series. The book series is about a lovable toddler-sized bunny named Branli. "Branli Says Bye-Bye to Binky" and the newly released "Branli Goes for a Walk" are books for young children, parents, educators and anyone who enjoys reading to children.
I have been able to accomplish these works through setting priorities. A lot of times I hear people say they want to do something but they don't have the time. When in reality, if it's a priority, you make time for it. If you think about what you have done during the day, you are usually stating your current priorities. But what happens when you decide to make something else a priority? You learn that you had the time after all or you have to shift what's important in your day. For example, instead of watching all of your favorite tv shows, maybe you can spend an hour writing each day.
What I have learned is that my passion kept coming up as the years passed. So I really could not ignore it. Writing brings me joy and has become a great outlet to offset a demanding professional career in IT. My family is most important to me and I enjoy doing a lot of things. As an author, parent and IT professional, the only way I could work on the pursuit of my passion was by making it a high priority in my life.

I loved your post on Writing and Life Balance, it's just more confirmation to me that we are "preset" when we are born with our passions, dreams or purpose. The main "theme" of who we are is with us and it never goes away whether we act upon it or not. Because we get pulled and tugged in many directions work/life balance is vital and important to helping us stay present in the life and work that allows us to live our ultimate potential. For me, it’s been a journey; work life balance has been a continuous process where I strive daily to be my best mentally, physically and spiritually. It’s the process of developing and executing healthy habits that allow me to age well, experience optimal health and sustain the energy to navigate through life challenges without impacting my "whole" existence. By working on different areas of my life on a daily basis, over time I’m able to approach my life with all of the energy, balance, optimism, health, and joy that I need to be a mom, author, consultant, speaker, writer, workshop presenter, friend and companion.
Thanks for the reminder!
